Amazon Brings Alexa+ to India With Hindi Support and Smarter Conversations

Amazon has officially introduced its upgraded Alexa+ conversational assistant in India, expanding the AI-powered service with support for both Hindi and English.

The updated assistant is designed to maintain context across longer conversations and handle more complicated requests. It is initially available to Indian customers through an Early Access program, with broader pricing planned after the testing period.

Alexa+ Arrives in Hindi and English

Alexa+ is currently available to customers in India in both Hindi and English.

Amazon plans to make the service available at no additional cost to Prime members once Early Access ends. Customers without a Prime subscription are expected to pay ₹2,000 per month, equivalent to approximately $20.85.

One of the notable additions is the ability to switch between Hindi and English during the same conversation, making the assistant more suitable for India's multilingual environment.

More Natural and Expressive Conversations

Amazon says the new version of Alexa features a more expressive voice and can understand requests involving multiple steps.

Instead of simply responding to individual commands, Alexa+ can coordinate several actions as part of a broader request. For example, it can help users order groceries through Amazon's quick-commerce service Amazon Now or control connected smart-home devices.

Users can also ask Alexa+ to turn compatible devices on or off through voice commands.

Integration With Popular Indian Services

Amazon has also expanded Alexa+'s connections with services that are widely used in India.

The assistant integrates with platforms including:

  • Swiggy for food delivery
  • District by Zomato for ticket bookings
  • Tripadvisor for travel-related information
  • MakeMyTrip for travel services
  • EazyDiner for restaurant reservations
  • Amazon Music for music streaming
  • JioSaavn for music and audio

These integrations allow Alexa+ to perform actions and retrieve information across a wider range of everyday services.

Alexa+ Was Already Being Tested in India

Amazon's latest announcement follows several months of testing in the Indian market.

In June, the company invited selected users to participate in an Alexa+ testing program focused on conversations in Hindi. Amazon later expanded its testing to include an English-language version of the assistant.

The Early Access launch now represents the next stage of that rollout.

Amazon Has a Long History With Alexa in India

Amazon originally introduced Alexa and Echo devices to India in 2017, initially with English-language support.

Hindi was added to Alexa in 2019, giving Amazon a way to reach a much larger segment of the country's population.

India has more than 600 million Hindi speakers, making Hindi support an important part of Amazon's strategy for expanding Alexa's reach.

Amazon also reported that its smart-home devices in India have grown by 20% compared with the previous year, although the company did not disclose the total number of devices in use.

From Traditional Alexa to AI-Powered Alexa+

Amazon first unveiled its generative AI-powered Alexa+ in 2025, positioning it as a major evolution of its original voice assistant.

The upgraded service subsequently became available to all users in the United States in 2026. Amazon has also expanded Alexa+ into several international markets, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Italy, and Germany, with support adapted to local languages and regional context.

India Becomes Another Major Market for Alexa+

With Hindi and English support, integration with Indian services, and the ability to carry context through longer conversations, Alexa+ represents a significant expansion of Amazon's AI assistant strategy in India.

The company is effectively transforming Alexa from a system focused primarily on individual voice commands into a more conversational assistant capable of handling multi-step tasks and interacting with a broader ecosystem of services.
